Front side windows must allow at least 32% of visible light through in both Georgia and Alabama, with a 3% measurement tolerance and a 20% cap on reflectance. Georgia sets this in O.C.G.A. 40-8-73.1 and Alabama in Ala. Code 32-5C-2. Apex meters the finished glass before delivery, because factory Tesla glass already reduces transmission before any film goes on.

Georgia law exempts multipurpose passenger vehicles from the rear-window VLT minimum, but the statute defines those as vehicles built on a truck chassis or fitted with special features for occasional off-road use. A Model Y is a unibody crossover, so the exemption is not clearly settled. Apex meters Model Y rear glass to the 32% standard by default rather than guessing on the owner's behalf.

Neither Georgia nor Alabama permits film across the full windshield. Georgia allows only a narrow non-reflective strip at the top, and Alabama allows non-reflective film above the factory AS-1 line. Apex installs the strip where it is legal and declines full windshield film in both states, which keeps the car compliant on either side of the river.

XPEL PRIME is a nano-ceramic film with no metal layers, so it does not create the signal interference associated with older metallized films that can affect a Tesla's keyless entry, cellular connectivity, and cabin sensing. Installers route around defroster lines and antenna elements rather than over them. Apex also stocks metallic and dyed film, but nano-ceramic PRIME is the better match for a Tesla's glass-routed electronics.

Alabama requires a compliance label affixed by a tinting dealer at the time of installation, under Ala. Code 32-5C-6, and a missing or altered label can be treated as a separate violation. Georgia removed its label requirement when the statute was amended in 2005. Apex applies the label on Alabama installs at the Phenix City shop on US Hwy 80.

XPEL PRIME film reduces infrared heat and blocks up to 99% of UV rays, according to XPEL, which is what actually lowers cabin temperature under a panoramic glass roof. Ceramic coating does not do this. Apex installs both film and coating, so Tesla owners in Columbus and Phenix City get the product that matches the complaint.

Nano-ceramic XPEL PRIME is the right choice for a Tesla. It carries no metal layers, so it does not create the signal interference associated with metallized films, and it delivers the highest infrared rejection in the PRIME range. Apex also stocks metallic and dyed film, but the metallic option is a poor match for a car that routes keyless entry, cellular connectivity, and cabin sensing through its glass.
